A most interesting little item. This small 6.75" x 9.75" framed print was signed by Brigadier General Edmund Phipps-Hornby, who was awarded the Victoria Cross during the Boer War as a commanding officer of an artillery battery. The print features his signature at the bottom, and was produced in 1938 -- it fittingly depicts an "Officer of the Ordnance Trayne of Artillery Circa 1688." What makes this piece especially interesting is that the reverse shows it was framed at Cogswell's in Halifax, suggesting the print may have been gifted to an artillery officer stationed here sometime around the onset of WWII. There is a name on the back which is likely the recipient of the print but unfortunately I cannot decipher it.
