A fine circa 1905 tin advertising sign manufactured by the Meek Novelty & Sign Company of Coshocton, Ohio. You can faintly make out the advertising at the top and bottom, which has been overpainted in black at one time. The ghosted lettering reads "Russell's Chocolates/Cambridge, Mass." There are two holes at the top to hold a string for hanging. In 1909 The Meek Company changed its name to American Art Works and became most famous for making the early Coca-Cola advertising trays.

These tin wall signs featured serial images that were manufactured as free promos carrying advertising for various companies. It was quite common for later recipients to paint over the lettering so the sign could be hung on the wall as a piece of art. It's quite possible the overpaint could be removed but we have not attempted it. The condition of the pretty dame lithograph is excellent.
