A magnificent carved wooden voting box for the Sons of Scotland fraternal organization. Features two drawers in the front, a handle in the back, and a carved top with a central hole for dropping in your voting marble. The lid is decorated with the letters "S.O.S." as well as the spiny leaves and flower head of the Scottish thistle. Circa 1900. Found in Newfoundland.

The Sons of Scotland was established in Toronto in 1876 and featured various "camps" across Canada. The organization was founded by Scottish immigrants and their descendants and was dedicated to preserving Scottish history and camaraderie, encouraging cultural events such as Burns Dinners, and it also served as a safety net providing insurance and support for its members.
