A good 19th century seafarer's chest in solid camphorwood, of robust construction with chunky dove-tailed joinery, and in original old paint with stencil decoration circa 1870. Features a horizontal interior till suitable for storing a telescope or marine charts, and features a quality working brass lock with original key. Camphorwood was considered a valuable and prized tropical hardwood, so this chest likely belonged to a captain or officer or someone of above-average financial means. Excellent condition for 150 years old. New Brunswick origins.
