Original 18th century Scottish highlander's dirk circa 1780, the spine decorated with scallops and incised decoration, the handle with a rope-twist pattern and Celtic design at the shoulders. Original brass hilt ferrule and pommel cap, as well as original hand-cut iron pommel nut. Note that there is a chip to the handle only visible from the underside beneath the pommel cap. (See close-up.) The unique carved handle design, as well as noting that the handle looks to be of maple or birch, leaves open the possibility this dirk, or at the very least, its handle, could've been made here in Nova Scotia. A menacing 17" in total length. No scabbard. Display stand not included.
