A true untouched museum-quality survivor from the mid to late 19th century, this Mi'kmaw-crafted basketry hat box is a fairly large piece measuring 11" x 13" and featuring remnants of the original wallpaper lining. As well, there is a piece of advertising from a Yarmouth clothing establishment laying in the bottom. I would date this basket to the period between 1860 and 1880 and rate its condition as very good.
