An interesting mid-20th century hand-crafted folk art memory jug utilizing various pieces of costume jewellery. Made using an ironstone pitcher as a base, with the jewelry pushed into a soft clay layer coating the outside of the pitcher. Once the clay hardens, the pieces are firmly locked in place. Memory wares were often made using the personal items belonging to a lost loved one, and this particular example embraces the jewellery styles of the one being remembered. These unique remembrance pieces are now considered a highly-collected and specialized form of folk art.
