A fine and large 19th century brass surveyor's compass with 6" dial by W. & L.E. Gurley. Complete with the original pair of sight vanes, two tripod mounts, tripod mount bezel, two extra needles, a plumb bob, and original brass dial cover. Although undated, this compass is likely 19th century -- it is unquestionably pre-1908 as it does not feature a serial number. There is an old Halifax 1912 certificate of identification inside the lid. All within a dovetailed and brass-screwed solid mahogany travel box also in excellent condition.
