Portraits of Joseph Howe are not considered rare, but to find one by one of Halifax's most well-known early photographers is a great find. This carte-de-visite albumen image is likely circa 1860-1863, when Howe was Premier of the Colony of Nova Scotia. It is framed with a total size of 5.75" x 6.5". The back is marked "W. CHASE/PHOTOGRAPH GALLERY/Opposite Club House, 159 Hollis Street, HALIFAX, N.S." Very good overall condition.
