Exceptional vibrant condition circa 1940's/50's Grenfell mat from the "People Working Series" designed by Ned Hancock. Depicts a seal hunter hoisting a harpoon overhead while standing above a seal on a ice floe with a majestic icerberg in the background. Mats from this series carry the distinctive 2-band border on only two sides. On page 125 of Paula Laverty's book "Silk Stocking Mats" you will find several pieces from this same series, although none depicting this seal hunter scene. Original label au verso.
