Complete 7 volume set of "Great Events of the Great War" in publisher's leatherette hardcovers w/gilt decoration. Each binding is modeled after the original art on the official copies of the Versailles Peace Treaty which were signed by heads of state and deposited in their respective government archives. This is a registered presentation set named to a known Nova Scotian officer and features a tipped-in certificate and record of service for Major George Ambrose Chase of the 5th Canadian Mounted Rifles. He enlisted in Kentville in 1915 and was wounded at the Battle of Sanctuary Wood on June 2nd, 1916. He received the Military Medal for gallantry.

Some background info regarding George Ambrose Chase, courtesy of Artefacts Canada: "George Ambrose Chase was born in Port Williams in 1890. He became an independent produce buyer who purchased valley fruit to ship to England. He was important in developing the pier in Port Williams; in 1928, shippers in Halifax threatened to mark-up prices unless valley produce was sent through Halifax. Chase enlisted the help of federal politician J.L. Illsley, representative for Kings County, to petition the government to build a pier in Port Williams. The government agreed to construct the pier and the port was visited by vessels from Britain, Scandinavia, and Germany."

Interestingly, in the past I've handled original apple barrel labels for Canada Empire Apples of Geo. A. Chase Ltd.
