A very well-executed late 18th/early 19th century painted portrait miniature by an accomplished hand. Although unsigned, the work is of the finest quality. This piece came from the estate contents of Canadian artist Annie Prat, herself a trained painter who studied in New York in the late 19th century. Annie Prat was a well-known painter and admirer of miniature portraits, and it's quite possible she collected this piece while studying in New York City, or when she visited the UK to see her ancestral home. The painting is mounted within a gold-filled frame and in overall very good condition.
