A marvelous folk art painting depicting a hunt scene, with two pointer dogs flushing fowl in the foreground and a hunter standing intently in the distance. The painting is titled "Alert" and dated 1902, and signed by Allan Mann. We believe this is the same Allan Mann who was owner of the hotel Albert House in Chatham, New Brunswick circa 1905. He had moved to Miramachi from Newfoundland a few years prior. The interior walls of his hotel were decorated with works of marine and animal life that he'd done. This is a good size work at 21" x 27", and it's likely the finest example of maritime folk painting we've had the opportunity to handle.
Dimensions: 21"x27"
