Superb early English sterling silver candle snuffer and tray from the George III period. Although by different makers, both the snuffer and tray are hallmarked for London, 1773. The tray, featuring a flying scroll handle, gadrooned border and central engraved mythical griffin, stands on trifid feet and was manufactured by John Cormick. The hinged scissor-work wick trimmer/snuffer features bright cut decoration and stands on knopped feet, manufactured by John Booth. The tray measures 7.75" x 3.75" x 2" and the snuffer is 6.5" in length. 11.25 troy ounces combined weight.
