An exceptional miniature hand-carved and painted goldeneye hen with accompanying carved wooden stand. Made by Don Levy of Little Tancook and dated 1945 on the base. A beautiful little carving with tiny applied wingtips wire-work legs and feet. The bird is only 3" in total length not including the stand. It looks as though there may have been painted paper glued to the feet at one time to give them a webbed appearance. In Decoys of Maritime Canada are quite a number of well-known Tancook Island carvers by the name of Levy although Donald is not mentioned.
