A magnificent display of carving skill, this side panel from a 19th century horse-drawn hearse carriage is hand-carved from two pine planks measuring 2" thick. Circa 1880. The central window was intended allow viewers to see the coffin and its elaborate fittings, flowers, pall and drapery inside during the procession. Excellent condition and in original paint. This 30" x 36" piece would make for a dramatic piece of wall art.
