Fine quality heavy brass and nickel voice tube for communicating on board a ship. The tube has a flared mouthpiece with a whistle that friction fits into the end, allowing air blown from the other end to create a shrill signal. Conversely, the whistle can be pulled from the tube and used as a hand-held whistle to signal in the other direction. Or you can speak directly into the tube to administer voice commands. This piece was purportedly salvaged off a WWII period merchant ship from Newfoundland, but we have no way of confirming that provenance.
