Stratford Jailor Cabinet Photo
A great framed photograph of noted Ontario Scotsman Hugh Nichol. Hugh Nichol served in the Fenian Raids in 1866 and was a Lieutenant in the Perth Regiment. He became Stratford's town jailor in the 1870's and his large kilted frame was often seen patrolling the streets throughout the late 19th and early 20th century. Nichol was also an amateur archaeologist and his collection can be found at the Stratford Perth Museum.
Upon removing the back of the frame, written on the reverse of the photo is "With compliments, Hugh Nichol, Stratford." Interestingly, this photo was found in Pictou, Nova Scotia, where Hugh Nichol was born.
