A nice example of a Newfoundland-owned seal and fowl hunter's musket. I really enjoy handling these heavily-used, ingeniously-preserved Newfoundland pieces. With good working firearms sometimes in short supply on The Rock, inhabitants would make the best of what was available at the time. Pieces like this would've been used well into the 20th century. The make-do repairs and hand-crafted ramrod only add to its appeal. The heavy varnished finish and the splotch of green/blue boat paint on the underside of the stock suggest this musket likely saw some time aboard a fishing boat.
