A scarce late 19th/early 20th century knife with blade marked for S.A. Crowell of Yarmouth N.S.. Knives of this style with a slightly upward curved blade and blunt tip are often referred to as "fur trade" or "frontier" or "mountain man"  knives and were used for multitude of purposes, from skinning and butchering to cooking and carving. This is a well-built knife with no less than five brass pins securing the handle, making it exceptionally sturdy.
