A wonderful collection of 19th century Mi'kmaq splint gauges for cutting uniform strips of ash for making basketry. Each tool has small evenly-spaced metal teeth to suit this purpose. The handles have nice patination and one has a wonderful carved volute scroll on the end, and another features carved initials. See the included close-up photo showing the various handle details. These were found amongst the contents of an estate in Clementsport, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia.
