A wonderful piece of Halifax beer history here. This the original flow diagram drawn up by Robert Duncan Mussett in October of 1948. Mussett was born and bred in Halifax where he attended Dalhousie University in the early '40's. His studies were brought to a halt by WWII as he chose to serve as a Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Engineers. After the war he returned to Dalhousie and completed his Bachelor of Science degree and was taken on by Oland's Brewery while he enrolled at the Schwartz Brewing School in New York City. It would've been around this time that Mussett drafted this flow chart. Upon his return to Halifax, he became brew master at Keith's Brewery and was credited with formulating the famous Schooner Beer. He was also integral in the birth of the internationally acclaimed Keith's Pale Ale. By the late 60's Mussett was Vice President of Production for Oland's and his illustrious career spanned 35 years.
This flow diagram is a large piece measuring 32" x 42.5" and would make for an exceptional conversation piece on the wall of any serious ale officionado. It has been suggested this piece was in the possession of the Olands family for some time before it came to surface this past year.
