Beautiful condition circa 1930 Dartmouth Station or Engine #1 fireman's helmet by Cairns & Brothers. This is a scarce transitional example of the more modern fluted aluminum construction but still retaining the high ornamental leather crest with rare snarling dog adornment. Sometime in the 1930's the Cairns helmet design changed to a lower profile because the high ornamental crest was prone to catch on low entrances or hanging debris. This helmet has survived in fine overall condition with its original liner.
