A wonderful diminutive Victorian bookcase commissioned by Wilfrid Airy. This compact piece measures less than three feet wide and 17 inches deep while standing 87 inches tall. Wilfrid Airy was the son of Sir George Biddell Airy, a renowned English mathematician and astronomer. Wilfrid was the designer and engineer for the telescope and its equipment used in George Tomline’s Orwell Park Observatory.

There is a small 19th century note pasted inside this bookcase documenting its provenance.
