Charlotte Trenholm’s N.B. Sampler
Although this is a small sampler at only 7.5" x 8.5", it is a powerhouse of design and craftsmanship. Worked by Charlotte Trenholm, born in Cape Tormentine, Westmoreland County, New Brunswick in 1833. This sampler was done by Charlotte at the age of 10, so it would've been done in 1843. It features full alphabets in upper and lowercase, as well as several lines of initials of family members. Each section has decorative embroidered lines, and the whole has a wonderful stitched pattern surrounding it. The lower portion has a fantastic tree of life with a solitary bird perched on a branch, and dog and a bird standing below, flanked by shrubs and stylized birds in flight. The left and right lower quadrants have religious quotes.
