Tibetan Ceremonial Femur Horn

Tibetan Ceremonial Femur Horn

Ref: 4153

SOLD

An authentic 19th century Tibetan ceremonial horn made from a human femur. The horn, also referred to as a kangling trumpet, is used during rituals and funerals. The femur of a criminal or individual who died a violent death are considered most suitable for kangling horns. There are quite a few fake examples of these in circulation made from cow bone, but this is guaranteed authentic and quite old. It was found in a Lunenburg estate that once belonged to 19th century traveling missionaries. The mid-19th century surgical sets we currently have on our site are from the same estate.
