A superb quality painted cameo glass plafonnier. During the 1870's, in an effort to find a way to compete with the exceptional (and very expensive) acid-etched cameo glass by the likes of Thomas Webb, Daum and Galle, some manufacturers took on the task of creating a painted glass decoration executed in a manner difficult to distinguish from etched cameo glass. This light fixture epitomizes the quality achieved with some of these painted pieces. (See additional pic below.) The fixture is currently not wired for electricity, but this could easily be done. The fixture includes a period canopy and suspension chains.
