Louisbourg Shipwreck Cannon Ball

Louisbourg Shipwreck Cannon Ball

Louisbourg Shipwreck Cannon Ball

Ref: 4003

SOLD

Cannon ball salvaged from the wreck of French Navy ship Chameau, built in 1717. On her way to Louisbourg in 1725, the Chameau was blown onto rocks and sank, with all souls on board lost. The ship was laden with silver and gold coins, which was salvaged in the 1960's by a gentleman named Alex Storm. Storm exhibited some of his salvaged finds at a coin show held at the Lord Nelson Hotel in the late 1960's, and this cannon ball was given away as a door prize at that show. The door prize was won by a 12-year-old girl, and the cannon ball stayed in the family until present day. It's a fairly large example at 6" in diameter.

Dimensions: 6"
