A wonderful and rare early piece of Nova Scotia advertising that we'd sold some years ago and have now had the opportunity to re-acquire. This is a fairly good-sized advertising thermometer for H.W. Cameron, Optician. Interestingly, the advertisement reads "ARTIFICIAL HUMAN EYES FITTED." This may be owing to the fact that a great many people had lost their eyesight from the blast of the Halifax Explosion, and at that same time many soldiers were arriving home from WWI with serious eye wounds, creating considerable demand for experts in fitting artificial eyeballs. This glass mercury tube is intact but not functioning. A scarce piece for the collector of Halifax advertising.
