Framed portrait and medal pair to James Robert Boyle, killed in action at the Battle of Amien. Boyle was born March 8th, 1898, in Dartmouth Nova Scotia. He spent his youth employed as a chocolate worker until he enlisted in the army at the age of 17. On March 6, 1916, he signed up with the 219th Battalion, and on August 8th, 1918, he died while serving with the 78th Winnipeg Grenadiers at the Battle of Amien. About 100 members of the 78th were killed during the fight.
