Annapolis Co. Painted Lap Desk

Ref: 3758

SOLD

An Annapolis County grain-painted pine lap desk. It's not often we come across primitive versions of this type of writing box. This box opens to reveal a fairly standard writing slope with felt surface, each inside panel hinged for document storage below, along with a pen and inkwell till. The box was obviously made by a competent cabinet-marker, as it features fine dovetailing. Found in the attic of a farmhouse near Kingston, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia. Amazingly, it includes the original key. Circa 1860.

Dimensions: 18"x10"x6"
